Patent and Trademark Office Executive Assistant in Alexandria, Virginia

Summary This position is located in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). PTAB is comprised of statutory members and Administrative Patent Judges who conduct trials, including inter partes, post-grant, and covered business method patent reviews and derivation proceedings; hear appeals from adverse examiner decisions in patent applications and reexamination proceedings; and render decisions in interferences. Responsibilities The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia.This position is telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy. This role may be ideal for you if: You're adept at overseeing the office's smooth operation, which involves establishing schedules, forecasting requirements, maintaining policies and procedures, performing administrative tasks, and facilitating travel arrangements. This ensures that the office functions efficiently and supports the mission objectives effectively. You're proficient in managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, which involves screening and reviewing to ensure relevance, accuracy, and adherence to internal guidelines. You summarize key points, provide recommendations, and keep relevant personnel informed of any changes or updates. You excel in the creation of clear and effective written communications, including drafting various types of correspondence on different topics. You also edit and present information in a manner that is easily understandable and appropriate for the intended audience. You're skilled in mastering Microsoft Office tools, enabling the creation of presentations, reports, and other materials for senior management. You use these tools to analyze data, make recommendations, and effectively communicate information both orally and in writing. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. Miscellaneous Administration and Program Series, 0301 Applicants must have (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience in analyzing and evaluating issues that are typically diverse and complex in nature and using existing methods and procedures to future requirements in order to develop timely and executable plans of action. Experience in coordinating and planning events on behalf of high-ranking organizational officials, such as Town Halls, Brown Bag meetings, as well as domestic and international travel arrangements. Experience in managing the operational schedule of high-ranking officials through the development and maintenance of current and long-range calendars and controlling their appointments. Experience in drafting presentations, talking points, briefings, handbooks, correspondence, etc. using the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in screening, reviewing, and composing internal and external correspondence to and from high-ranking officials. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Education may not be substituted at this grade levels.
