Job Summary

The University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute (UMDI) Connected Beginnings (CB) Early Childhood Coach/Trainer provides training, coaching, and technical assistance to the early childhood mixed-delivery system.

Essential Functions

  • Provides in-person and virtual training, coaching and technical assistance to professionals working within the mixed delivery early child care system.

  • Participates in the creation and delivery of proposed scopes of work for various clients in response to client needs, and sponsors in response to changes in guidance, policy, and regulation.

  • Provides information for early childhood professionals relevant to early childhood industry navigation including but not limited to supports available through the regional professional development centers, and other available resources in the community such as community colleges, Early Childhood Mental Health Grantee, Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (CCR&R), etc.

  • Provides on-going in-depth and accurate documentation and reporting as required.

Other Functions

  • Participates in Central MA Professional Development Center and Connected Beginnings meetings as requested.

  • Participates in business unit and UMDI meetings and initiatives as requested.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working as an Educator and/or Administrator in/with EEC-licensed early care and education programs.

  • Bilingual verbal fluency in English/Spanish or English/Portuguese.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of EEC regulations, guidelines, and procedures.

  • Demonstrated content knowledge in early childhood development, best practice in early childhood setting, and other related topics.

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Proficiency with common business software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Ability to independently travel to programs throughout New England.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing effective training to adult learners.

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong ability to work independently and as a member of a team with varying levels of support.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master’s degree.

  • Academic discipline: Early Childhood Education or related disciplines.

  • Three (3) years of experience of relevant professional early childhood training and coaching experience.

  • Experience in early childhood program leadership and EEC licensors in fulfilling Massachusetts program regulations.

  • Trained in the PDC Leadership Coaching Model, Coaching guide, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methodology.

  • Experience in using ECE related tools such as ECERS, ITERS, CLASS rating scales.

  • Demonstrated content knowledge in social emotional learning and effective parent engagement.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Conduct work in a home-based office with high-speed internet access, sufficiently free of distractions, where employee will be expected to maintain regular communication with supervising manager(s) and clients.

  • Multiple hours in a stationary position using office equipment and computers.

  • Office environment is a busy, collegial area resulting in multiple interruptions and requests for assistance.

  • Evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Ability to independently travel to programs throughout New England.

  • Some transporting of supplies up to 20 pounds.

  • The physical/mental demands and work environment factors described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Work Schedule

  • Standard full-time work schedule consisting of 40 hours per week. Work performed in addition to the regular work hours may be necessary, and may require a change in availability at specific times, to accommodate for variations in work demands.

  • This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
