About Technology Development & Components Research:

The Technology Development Group is responsible for the research, development, and deployment of next-generation silicon and packing technologies that will enable future Intel and Foundry customer products.

Within Technology Development, Intel’s Components Research (CR) team is comprised of 300+ scientists and engineers who deliver innovative semiconductor and packaging technologies research and development. The group focuses on unique, enabling capabilities across all aspects of Intel's semiconductor processing, devices, circuits and computing products architecture. Components Research is responsible for leading programs to design, fabricate and analyze novel devices/interconnects, materials, and integration schemes across a wide variety of novel applications. The Exploratory Integrated Circuits group is searching for energy efficient computing hardware to realize solutions typically 10-15 years ahead of production.

About the Role:

The Principal Semiconductor Research Engineer will work with, or lead a team of, researchers on the implementation of exploratory devices and integrated circuits for logic, memory as well as novel computing paradigms. They will be responsible for simulations/design/prototyping of materials, devices, and circuits for digital, or analog, energy efficient computing systems, doing lab testing of these circuits etc. The main direction of the research will be ultra energy efficient exploratory devices and circuits for various emerging workloads. The research will utilize and enhance the skills and capabilities in scientific analysis, problem solving, synthesis of simulation and experimental data, effective communication, and collaboration within the team.

Required Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in research with the electronic, magnetic/spintronic and ferroelectric materials and their simulation/modeling.

  • Experience in the exploration of significantly more energy efficient devices than the complementary MOSFET transistors for computing such as CPU, GPU and AI. Benchmarking of such devices.

  • Experience in non-traditional (non von Neumann) computing hardware architecture for algorithms in the solution for NP hard problems.

  • Highly motivated individual, able to resolve challenges across domains towards full prototype.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Effective prioritization and time management skills

  • Stakeholder management, strong collaboration, tolerance for ambiguity, and critical thinking

  • Excellent teamwork ethics

  • Willing to work in an agile work environment with a fast-paced task flow.

  • Good interpersonal skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and emerging semiconductor, electronic, or spintronic devices.

  • Experience in software-hardware co-design using CMOS or emerging technologies.

  • Experience of digital / analog CMOS integrated circuit design

  • Experience performing research related to one or a few novel computing paradigms.

  • Experience of benchmarking various technologies and design options for von Neumann and Non von Neumann computing.

  • Experience in prototyping via simulation on CPU-GPU / FPGA etc

  • Experience in working with pytorch/tensorflow/C++/python/verilog

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Applied Physics, or a similar field.

  • 15+ years of semiconductor research experience

Working Model

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
