The Intelligent Cloud Hosting (ICON) team is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer who is passionate to work on the development of innovative software products which will help boost engineers productivity in Amazon and improving services’ posture towards security, availability, efficiency, compliance and maintainability. Key job responsibilities

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in the ICON team, you will working on the development of next generation managed hosting platform technologies. You will lead the design, implementation, and successful delivery of large-scale services. You will be influencing your team’s technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities and approach. You will work side-by-side and collaborate with strategic technical stakeholders and customers to develop new products that meet the needs of the Amazon e-Commerce platform. You will partner with multiple teams to come up with novel ways to make our retail website more secure and available for Amazon customers. You will solve complex yet fun challenges by looking at the big picture while diving into the nitty-gritty.

The right candidate will possess proven software engineering skills, with the experience of creating and launching large scale distributed systems with the help of a team. You are expected to be versatile, able to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and eager to mentor junior engineers. You are comfortable managing competing priorities and are able to bring order to ambiguous scenarios. Maturity, impeccable judgment, and the ability to influence and lead are essential to success in this role. You are data-driven and analytical. You can clearly & effectively communicate (written as well as verbally) across organizations and up to senior leadership.

What does it take to succeed in this role?

You need to be creative, responsible, and able to dig deep into AWS emerging technologies. You will need to learn existing systems and design an integrated system. You will think about business opportunities, operational issues, architectural improvements, and the customer perspective in the source of a single conversation. You have a deep mastery of programming languages, distributed system design, and performance.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer on this team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the definition, vision, design, roadmap and development of innovative software products which will help boost engineers productivity in Amazon, for improving services’ posture towards security, availability, efficiency, compliance and maintainability. Key responsibilities:

1)Work with the team to help drive business decisions

2)Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to drive services optimizations, cost, and security.

3)You provide insightful code reviews and take ownership of outcome.

4)Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables

5)Write high quality distributed system software

6)Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, where you are always working on the most important stuff.

About the team

The ICON team hosts Amazon websites and backend platform services that power the customer experience. We abstract and centralize the Infrastructure management from service teams, bring agility to business processes, and manage infrastructure of 100s of Tier-1 services. The ICON team is located within the Intelligent Control (ICC) organization who owns connecting our worldwide websites and other consumer experiences such as Kindle, Amazon Video, and Alexa to the internet, as well as ensuring the highest level of availability, security and privacy of the web services that power the experience we deliver to our customers worldwide.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Seattle, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

  • Experience in leading the design, implementation, and successful delivery of large-scale, critical, or difficult software efforts involving a significant amount of work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
